In partnership with the FRANKLIN girls’ basketball team, Waterstone Gallery will present Courts of Courage, a youth-focused arts education project and curated exhibition celebrating the legacy of women in basketball across race, time, and geography.
Led by a Waterstone Gallery artist–educator, the project began in June with a hands-on printmaking workshop. Students explored the history of women’s basketball—spotlighting trailblazers, unsung heroes, and historically marginalized athletes whose resilience shaped the sport. Through guided research, painting, and printmaking, each student created an original portrait of a significant woman in basketball.
Working in collaboration with Franklin’s health and gym coaches, the workshop emphasizes creativity, confidence-building, and the powerful intersection of athletics and the arts.
This project highlights youth engagement, women’s history, and community storytelling—bringing forward voices that embody perseverance, equity, and artistic expression.
50% of all art work sales made by the players will go directly back to the Franklin Highschool Girls’ Basketball team.
