Shannon Carlson, encaustic painting

Shannon Carlson

Shannon’s work is centered around conservation, steeped in the ephemeral quality of our wild places and the ways in which we are compelled to interact with and protect the earth. Sense of place is at the very core of the conversation—as it is both inspiration and theme, both physical and intangible.

The narrative explores nature's perpetual and permeable qualities—the push and pull of permanence and constant change. The change is also reflected in the way these paintings are created—with marks made, reduced, and shifted with pigments, wax, water and torch fire, all in flux.
