This September, Waterstone is pleased to exhibit work by new member Micah Kassell. In creating paintings for his series Provocation/Amendment, Kassell became his own provocateur - challenging himself to break free from old habits by making bold first moves. Whether the finished painting is stark, graphic or layer-laden, Kassell developed each as a series of moves or amendments in response to his initial impulse. Kassell's energetic and quiet marks invite viewers to consider the many stages of the creative process - from taking risks to the final resolution.

Micah Kassell is an artist and musician who has been creating things for eyes and ears for the last twenty years in Portland and around the world. While an accomplished graphic designer, painting has come to him in just the past ten years as a means of personal catharsis.
