The Lotus Pond

March 4-31, 2021

Embedded in themes of identity, home, migration, and cultural reclamation, this collection of paintings is a personal artistic journey. Mini uses the historic materials and painting practices of Indian Miniature Painting to reinterpret the symbolism of the Lotus and the Lotus Pond, a common and reoccurring theme in Indian art, and this body of work is a visual narrative of her migration experience and return to her country of origin.

These detailed paintings, rendered in stone pigment, 23 karat gold, and silver on 150-year-old Indian ledger paper offer a contemporary and very intimate palimpsest of time and memory.
