This April Waterstone Gallery is pleased to exhibit member artist Dave Haslett. Dave will be displaying stone sculpture inspired by wind, water and erosion. Some of the new work features a delicate carving technique that relates to the fragility that exists all around us. Heat and pressure are the forces of nature that have created these geological wonders and influenced Haslett’s compositions. Dave explores the “Force of Earth” using drawings to generate ideas for new sculpture. The irony of soft 2D paper transitioning to a hard 3D material is part of the process.  Stone represents lasting strength created over vast distances of time. By pushing the boundaries of the material creates challenges as the stone itself has a voice to the process and final outcome.
