Waterstone Gallery's November show, A Case of Bibliophilia, celebrates new sculptural works by guest artist Christian Burchard. Much like a reader's hands turning the pages of a book and discovering a story, Burchard's hands guide his way as he finds the narrative in each piece of wood he sculpts. Slicing, dicing and trimming, Burchard reads the patterns and textures of the Madrone wood he works with, and finds a story in the unexpected movements and unpredictability of his materials. He delights in this process and we hope you will too.

Although Burchard's early focus was on furniture and interiors, he gradually shifted to woodturning and sculpture, where he expertly moves between vessel forms and sculptural turning. His work is included in most major woodturning exhibits and is widely shown and collected throughout the US.
